I never thought I’d be one of those moms—you know, the kind who makes cute shapes out of fruits and veggies and packs lunches in bento boxes.

And then I became one of those moms. 

I started so that my then-kindergartener would be motivated to eat at school, and to help him feel like he has a little piece of home with him. He and his older brother ate their bentos up (literally), and I discovered that making healthy lunches every day is actually really easy. Really.

Now that back-to-school season is in full swing, I’m brainstorming lunchbox ideas. I use whole foods as much as possible, but I like to keep organic products handy, too. Cascadian Farm’s new protein granola and protein granola bars have 9-10g of protein, perfect for filling up kids during a long school day. Here are a few lunch ideas to get your creative juices flowing:

Pencil Bento

DIY Lunchables
